But we'd have the same problem if we change the value in specific modes
(which include all the popular programming languages where tabs aren't
mandatory, maybe sans cc-mode supported ones).
Maybe with fewer people (excluding folks who prefer tabs but don't use
any of the modes where it's changed), but the affected people would be
more annoyed, because changing it back will be more complicated for them.
The users who most benefit from better defaults are of course the ones
we don't have yet. They won't give thanks for this, but that doesn't
mean it's not valuable.
