Is that the only reason?  Why is that important?

I don't mean to argue.  I don't understand why
this would be useful/needed.

I do realize that learning about escaping \ in
a Lisp string is necessary otherwise, but is
that a big bother?

Is there another reason?  After all, as you said,
many programming languages have raw-string support.
Is _their_ reason for that only a reason similar
to what you state for Lisp (e.g. escaping backslash
chars)?
