FOSDEM 2017: GNU Guile & Guix call for talks!

Hello!

GNU Guile and Guix will have their own track half a day at FOSDEM this
year for the second time.

If you work on a cool project that uses Guile, if you’ve come up with
nice generic abstractions or crazy macros, if you have a fun compiler or
VM hack, or if you’re pushing Guix and GuixSD beyond the limits of
awesomeness, please consider talking about it at FOSDEM!

There are 11 days left to send a proposal for a talk; see the call for
proposals that Pjotr posted earlier:

We encourage submissions from people in communities usually
underrepresented in free software, including women, people in sexual
minorities, people with disabilities, and people not from Western Europe

In other good news: we have a full day instead of a half day!!!!!

All talks have more time and we can still add a few talks. The final
schedule has to be ready by this Saturday.

Hi all,

FOSDEM provides live streaming of talks and archiving. We need
volunteers to man the FOSS setup that handles the camera and mike.
Ideally two people who expect to be in the room all day :). It is
mostly automated and does not require special skills.

You can mail Manolis or me privately.

I could do some of it, but I’m also giving talks, so we need at least
one more person to help out.

Awesome. Ricardo can you co-ordinate between the 3 V&A, or ask one of
the others to coordinate and that you have each other's phone numbers?
I suggest to come half an hour before the room starts to boot up -
literally.

Hopefully the system does not miss out on talks like last year...

Good news: I'll be at FOSDEM all Sunday as well (my original plans
having been made when the Guix devroom was still on Saturday, and them
proving hard to change).

FOSDEM 2017 what a success!!

Big thanks to the great speakers - personally I enjoyed every single
talk!! And then a hand to those who helped, especially Manolis who
supported getting the program lined up from the start!

Great stuff - and I know we made some new converts :). As a colleague
said: I thought the Ruby dev-room was great, but then the Guile
dev-room blew me away...

Hello!

I’m on my way back and starting to realize what happened.  :-)

It was amazing.  A big thanks to you Pjotr and to Manolis for making it
possible!  Thanks also to Alex for organizing those friendly dinners and
for Chris Webber for guiding the whole crowd to the last dinner place
yesterday evening (~20 people three days in a row!).

It confirmed my feeling that one of the greatest things about Guile and
Guix is the people.  Thanks for the great talks and the good time we’ve
had!

+1.  The Guile/Guix devroom has been some of the most fun I've ever had
at a conference.  I'm sure 2018 will be great too, and I'm looking
forward to all the things that will happen in the next year! :)
