Um, couldn't it do this only when the thumb actually reaches the minimum
size? So for a buffer where the thumb was larger than minimum, you'd
get the nice shrinking behavior.
If we implement the shrinking behavior ourselves, we could shrink
it as much as we like--we could implement the minimum size as pertaining
to the whole thumb including the part that's off screen.
The question is what to do if that is more work than we want to do.
Yes, we could do what you suggest.
