I use a file foobar consisting of the three lines
foo
bar
baz
and an .emacs file
(setq inhibit-startup-message t)
(find-file "~/foobar")
(display-buffer "foobar")
(transient-mark-mode 1)
(forward-line)
(delete-char 3)
(set-mark (point-min))
(forward-line)
(revert-buffer)
If I answer "yes" the region remains highlighted.
