I think the relatively high use of Fassq is because we call it when
looking for appropriate fonts.

Btw, isn't it strange that changing your system configuration affects
the profile so much?  Did the change involve any significant
modifications in the fonts that are installed, or in the version or
configuration of fontconfig?
