I'm unable to reproduce this in Emacs 29 on Debian/bookworm.  But it
does spew out a lot of these warnings:

emacs:609181): Gtk-CRITICAL **: 02:04:10.529: gtk_distribute_natural_allocation: assertion 'extra_space >= 0' failed
