The examples given on the page below do not work for me.

It seems there has been some change in the way results from one source block are called into another (R) source code block.

Could you be more accurate about which specific code block(s) is(/are)
not working?

PS- IIUC, the "sh" code blocks should be renamed "shell" -- at least
with Org in master. Should be as well in maint (since Dec '13)... will
be when 8.3 will be out.
