Hi Guix,

I'm trying to figure out convenient ways to manage multi-monitors,
e.g. make profiles, auto-detect configurations, etc.

We already have arandr on master. Has anyone interesting tricks to
share with it?

I found other related projects:

- https://github.com/jceb/screenconfig combined with
  https://github.com/jceb/srandrd.

Has anyone tried those out? Would it make sense to package them for
Guix?

Cheers!

I used arandr in my Xfce days (because I can’t be bothered to remember
the xrandr command line syntax). It worked fine, but I wouldn’t know
about any tricks. I used it primarily to connect to projectors.

Haven’t tried those.

I've just packaged autorandr, it looks pretty neat:

- Save profiles based on monitor IDs.
- Programmable hooks.
- autorandr_launcher detects screen changes to automate the whole thing.

Totally! :/

There were a few embarrassing "xrandr moments" during FOSDEM... xrandr has been
tripping many of us for too long, it's really something that we should not be
fighting with in the 21st century :p

Hopefully arandr and autorandr will prove handy in the future.

Cheers!

That looks nice, thanks for packaging it!

It should be said that HDMI shares the responsibility. :-)

Huhu! :)

Out of curiosity, why HDMI in particular?
