"guix upgrade", with no arguments, should do it.

The shell looks to be running filename expansion [0] in your current
directory. Try `guix upgrade .` or simply `guix upgrade`.

Just “guix upgrade”, according to the manual.
It also optionally takes a regular expression, but “*” is not a valid
regular expression, so it matches nothing.

First do a guix pull to update your local guix repository. Then you must run `guix system reconfigure` or `guix home reconfigure` depending on where/which profiles you are using.
If you're just using guix as a normal package manager on the default profile you can go `guix --help` for more info
