Hello!

So it is Summer of Code time again.

If you have ideas, let’s discuss them, and then send an HTML fragment
for <http://www.gnu.org/software/soc-projects/ideas-2014.html>. Looks
like we have the GNUnet idea that we could copy/paste from last year.
Anything else?

If you are an eligible student, it’s a good time to get in touch with us.

Thanks,
Ludo’.

How good is user space support for Guix? I haven't gotten down to
trying yet, but that is on my list. If that works I could think of
many applications (Python/Ruby modules, vim modules, etc.). Or are we
forced to have a server running?

Recompilation is not a problem.

Pj.

Guix is a purely user-space thing: a package manager, and a distribution
of user-space programs.

It requires to have the daemon running as root (see
<http://www.gnu.org/software/guix/manual/guix.html#Setting-Up-the-Daemon>),
and then Guix tools connect to it.

Adding packages is always welcome, yes!

I don’t think that would suffice as a GSoC project though.

Thanks,
Ludo’.

How about the PackageKit bindings and the GUI for the package manager? [1]

Too bad I'm not eligible.

Definitely!

Would someone be willing to write a short description? That’d be
great.

Thanks,
Ludo’.
