Hi Guix,

we do NOT have a stand at FOSDEM 2019, our application was not accepted.

Thank you to everyone who helped in preparing it and who offered
to spend their time at the stand.

Björn

You are receiving this message (bcc) because your email address was
listed on an application for a stand at FOSDEM 2019.

Thank you all for your patience, but on behalf of the FOSDEM Stands
Team I regret to inform you that your application has not been
successful.

I hope you are not too disappointed and will still join us at FOSDEM
2019 in another capacity. As an alternative, there is just still time
to apply for a lightning talk about your project(s).

Alasdair

Bummer,

Did they provide any more feedback so that we can be more prepared next
year as more likely candidates?

Best,

No.

I think in general there is the problem of high demand and only a
fixed size of stands. I'm not sure if there is anything we could do to
improve our application text. On FOSDEM I will be asking other stands
how they did it, how much effort they put into it and what tricks they
have.

Anyway, it was a first trial, we didn't put too much effort into it and
we can now just concentrate on the 2 Guix-days before FOSDEM.

Yes, it is very competitive.

What we still can do is have promotional materials and provide them
through an existing stand. There are probably a few sympathetic to GNU
Guix. There are also some common tables we can use for that and (of
course) the minimalism devroom on Saturday.

Thanks a lot Björn for dealing with the application. It’s a bit sad we
didn’t get it, but like you write, there’s a lot of competition for
relatively little space. Oh well, maybe next year!

I’m really looking forward to the Guix days, I’m confident it’s going to
be fruitful and pleasant.

I agree. We should print stickers and hopefully the FSFE booth or some
other location will happily host them!

Speaking of which, if someone has ready-to-use SVG files with stickers
(maybe including the word “Guix” and not just the horns), please share!
Someone can order them and then we can likely get it reimbursed by the
Guix fund at the FSF or through the Guix Europe non-profit.

Thanks,
Ludo’.

Who among us is planning on going to FOSDEM19? I might see if I can
procure plane tickets and rooms for my wife and I, and buy a beer or
something for a few of us. Also, sorry I am out of the loop here, but
what is "Guix days"?

These are 2 days to chat about all things Guix, right before FOSDEM:

  https://libreplanet.org/wiki/Group:Guix/FOSDEM2019#GNU_Guix_Days

Presumably most of the 23 people listed there will be present at FOSDEM.

Hope to see you there!

Ludo’.

Great fun. Here's more information[0].

Please consider adding your name(s) to the list! ;-)

When I printed mine I actually just passed the SVG from guix-artwork[1] to
the sticker company and then provided the size I wanted. It was all through
some online tool at diginate (uk based). They look good, though my judgement
of graphics, resolution and so on is simple - for lack of a better word.

I also appended a relevant part of my order in case it's helpful - I hope it
is. :)

(I might have used the file GuixSD-print.svg, I'm not sure what the
difference is. There's also a Guix.svg I'm assuming would work just as well.)
