How to get latest stable(ish) branch?

How to get latest stable(ish) branch?

I want to try version "1.6" or whatever pre-1.6 is in CVS.  I guessed
by looking at the online CVS at savannah that to do this I should
specify the tag "branch_release-1-6", right?

If this is correct, maybe the answer to this can be added to the
bottom of http://www.gnu.org/software/guile/anon-cvs.html

Right.  For an existing tree,

  cvs -qz3 update -Pd -r branch_release-1-6

should work, as I recall.

Good idea.  That, along with some of the info from the more recent
docs should probably be integrated there.  I'll plan to add a todo
item for that when I'm working on guile next.
