Lists of integers (garbage collection statistics) are normal output
while building Emacs; they do not indicate a problem.

Anyone got a clue? Where is loaddefs.el supposed to be?

It was removed from the repository. Doing a "make autoloads" once in
the lisp/ subdirectory (or running the commands it's supposed to run
manually) should recreate it. After that, the build should work as
usual.

Thank you! There seem to be lots of "secret" build repairs in the
lisp/ directory (autoloads, recompile, ...). Maybe there is a way to
hint at what to do when the main build fails? It already tells us
that

Lists of integers (garbage collection statistics) are normal output

so there's precedent.

"make recompile", "make autoloads", and (in the top-level directory)
"make bootstrap" are the top sellers.

Thanks, but I meant automatically, as part of the build process.

That should already work, if you do a fresh build.

What do you mean by "fresh?" I did "nmake clean" from the nt/ directory...

Restarting the build from scatch.

Could you please be more specific? What commands do I issue? I ask
because I was pretty sure I did "restart the build from scratch". I
assume you mean something different.

You get a helpful message when starting with a fresh checkout of the
sources and an empty build directory.

I can't get into that state with "cvs update" + "nmake clean"??

Yes. You didn't do a fresh checkout.
