  Untabify the whole file.

Why was this change made? It breaks the search for "[,\n\t]" in
info.el.

Because I think an Info file shouldn't have TABs in it.

If you mean the TABs I erroneously removed in the Node line, then I'm
sorry for my mistake. I've fixed this in CVS now.

If you mean something else, please explain.

Why not? There is nothing wrong with tab characters in examples,
as far as I know. Anyway, why does it bother you if it has
tab characters?

Because Texinfo mode sets indent-tabs-mode to nil.

Because Texinfo mode sets indent-tabs-mode to nil.

That is for the sake of passing the file to TeX.
It has nothing to do with Info files.

So I don't see any reason to untabify info files.
Perhaps you should take that change out.
Did it solve any real problem?

But it has the side effect of producing Info files with no TABs.

Why? it didn't hurt anything (modulo my stupid taking out the TABs in
the Node line, which is now fixed).

> Did it solve any real problem?

Spurious diffs when comparing to DIR created/rearranged by
install-info.

Yes, it does, but so what?

Why? it didn't hurt anything (modulo my stupid taking out the TABs in
the Node line, which is now fixed).

Because it might hurt something, and there is no reason for it.

    install-info.

I don't follow. Would you please be less terse?

It seems to me that there will always be variations in the results
obtained by running install-info, because the order of installing
various manuals will vary.

I meant diffs due to white space.

Anyway, I don't think this little issue justifies such a prolonged
discussion. If you want to take the change out, go ahead, and let's
move on. We have more important things to do with our time.
