The first pretest for what will be the 24.5 release of Emacs
(the extensible text editor) is available at

  ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/emacs/pretest/emacs-24.4.90.tar.xz

Please give it as much testing as you can.

As always, if you encounter problems building or using Emacs,
send a report to bug-gnu-emacs@gnu.org with full details
(if possible, use M-x report-emacs-bug).

Thanks for helping to test Emacs.

I am seeing some strangeness with the menu items, which I don't
understand. In the pre-test the menu appears embedded in the title bar
(I am on ubuntu and this is the correct place) rather than immediately
below. Under these circumstances some menu items are not visible (they
are there, can be selected by the text is invisible).

My own lentic package is affected, as is projectile and one of the menu
items in the spelling menu. Toggling menu-bar-mode on and off makes it
go away. I'm having a hard time to get this reproducible in a clean
emacs, so I thought I'd mail here rather than submit a bug until I do.

Thanks!

I'd suggest that changes on the emacs-24 branch will from now till the
release be limited to regressions since 24.4, and preferably even
those should be pushed only after asking here or on bug-gnu-emacs.

That being said, I need to fix a regression that breaks some elpa packages
due to the version header being missing in erc.el. Anyone see any reason
why I shouldn't install this patch?

+ ;; Version: 5.3

Indeed, please do not install any changes to emacs-24 unless it fixes
a regression w.r.t 24.4. If it fixes a regression w.r.t 24.3 it might
be acceptable, but first ask for confirmation.
