I believe it's an important issue that these things can be handled quite
differently in different companies and institutions.  I happen to have
two Office365 accounts through two different institutions.  One required
OAuth2 with multi-factor authentication already a few years ago, whereas
the other one disabled password-based access to IMAP and SMTP only two
weeks ago.  I have not yet explored in more detail how (dis)similar
these two institution have setup Office365.
