compile.el regexp comments

Umm, have the comments with example error messages matched by the
various compilation-error-regexp's quietly disappeared in the new
compile.el?

No doubt wizards can tell just at a glance what a regexp matches (and
is supposed to match), but I thought the samples were a good crib for
mere mortals.

I found those comments extremely valuable in the past--I hope someone
will bring them back.

They are now in etc/compilation.txt.

The really cool thing about this is that when you open that file in
emacs, the error messages are decorated by the new compile...

Mere mortals should look at etc/compilation.txt which shows not only what is
matched, but also how it is matched.
