I notice new functions `lax-plist-put' and `lax-plist-get' which seem
to be the same as the non-`lax-' functions, except comparing with equal.
What does `lax' stand for?

"Lax" means "not strict". The comparison is not strict.
I put these functions in for XEmacs compatibility.
