It appears that one cannot use OpenSSL when GnuTLS is installed.

Gnus, for instance, will use GnuTLS opportunistically.

Glenn gave the following workaround:

         (defalias 'gnutls-available-p 'ignore)

One used to be able to specify OpenSSL or even gnutls-cli, i.e.
I believe that this is a regression.

Thanks.

Can you expain why you want to do this; ie force calling an external
program rather than use built-in support?

The following message is a courtesy copy of an article
that has been posted to gmane.emacs.bugs as well.

There's a few reasons.

Here's one:

GnuTLS does not allow one to specify a directory of certificates to
use.

OpenSSL does.

Can you do this with the option gnutls-trustfiles, which can also be a
function? Eg (lambda () (file-expand-wildcards "/path/to/certs/*")).
