While M-x buffer-menu continues to work normally, assigning it to a key:
(global-set-key [f2] 'buffer-menu)
and invoking it by keystroke, no longer yields the buffer list in "most
recent first" order. However, when stepping through buffer-menu (using
debug-on-entry) it yields the most-recent-first order even when invoked
by keystroke.
In GNU Emacs 24.3.50.1 (i486-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 3.4.2)

I can't reproduce this in current trunk. It sounds pretty strange.

This could be related to bug#14191. If that's true, it should already
have been fixed (as 14191 was).
Brendan, can you please upgrade your Emacs and tell as if the problem
has gone? If not, please give us some more details (recipe from emacs
-Q, related settings).
Michael.

Mails to the address brendan@wivenhoe.ul.ie seem to bounce, I tried it
privately.
Suggest to close this report if we don't hear back from him in a while.
Michael.
