This bug report will be sent to the Bug-GNU-Emacs mailing list
and the GNU bug tracker at debbugs.gnu.org. Please check that
the From: line contains a valid email address. After a delay of up
to one day, you should receive an acknowledgment at that address.

Please write in English if possible, as the Emacs maintainers
usually do not have translators for other languages.

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug, and
the precise symptoms of the bug. If you can, give a recipe
starting from `emacs -Q':

emacs -Q
load a file
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
\documentclass[11pt]{article}

#type C-k on this line, twice

\begin{document}
\end{document}
stuff
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

type C-k on the line indicated, twice. The file now looks like
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
\documentclass[11pt]{article}

stuff
stuff
stuff
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dam. It is now happening in this buffer as well. Highlighting the
display restores the text

If Emacs crashed, and you have the Emacs process in the gdb debugger,
please include the output from the following gdb commands:
    `bt full' and `xbacktrace'.
For information about debugging Emacs, please read the file
/usr/share/emacs/24.3/etc/DEBUG.

i'm unable to reproduce this on my Debian Jessie x86_64 system,
having tried 24.3, 24.5, a recent emacs-25 branch build, and a
recent master branch build.

Does your version of Emacs come from an Ubuntu package, or did you
manually compile it yourself?

HI All,

emacs was installed from an ubuntu package (see below).
I just compiled emacs-24.5 from source and it is having the same problem.

 dpkg -l \*emacs\* | grep ii
ii  emacs                                      45.0ubuntu1
                            all          GNU Emacs editor
(metapackage)
ii  emacs24                                  24.3+1-2ubuntu1
                          amd64 GNU Emacs editor (with GTK+
user interface)
ii  emacs24-bin-common                         24.3+1-2ubuntu1
                            amd64        GNU Emacs editor's shared,
architecture dependent files
ii  emacs24-common                              24.3+1-2ubuntu1
                             all          GNU Emacs editor's shared,
architecture independent infrastructure
ii  emacs24-common-non-dfsg                     24.3+1-1
                             all          GNU Emacs common non-DFSG
items, including the core documentation
ii  emacsen-common                           2.0.7
                          all          Common facilities for all

I tried reproducing this on Emacs 27, but was unable to. Are you
still seeing this using a more recent version of Emacs, for example
the latest release 26.3?

If I don't hear back from you within a couple of weeks, I'll just
close this bug as unreproducible.

Best regards,
Stefan Kangas
