CCing Stefan who seems TRO for this.
emacs -Q
M-x find-function elisp-mode-syntax-propertize RET
C-U C-M-x
results in the following backtrace:
------------------------- snip -------------------------
Debugger entered--Lisp error: (error "Eager macro-expansion failure: (void-function edeb...")
error("Eager macro-expansion failure: %S" (void-function edebug-after))
internal-macroexpand-for-load((setq elisp--eval-defun-result (let ((print-level nil) (print-length nil)) (progn (defalias 'elisp-mode-syntax-propertize #'(lambda (start end) (edebug-enter ... ... ...)))))) t)

Not analyzed any further, but the combination of
`syntax-propertize-rules' and `rx' seems to trigger this error.

This looks like Bug#65620 which has been fixed recently. I don't get an
error for your recipe with master.
Michael.

Actually, it more seems like bug#64459 fixed by Stefan in 26f31fe3b584.
Merging accordingly since it is not worth separately fixing in 29, IMO.

close 66219 30.0.50
thanks
Um, forcemerge only for admins? Or was there something wrong with my
previous control command? Hopefully I can at least close it.
