If one visits a webp file in Dired using dired-find-file, the file is
visible for a few
seconds only before disappearing. The file is visible if one views it using
image-dired, i.e., by selecting it and invoking C-t d.

I'm unable to reproduce this in Emacs 28.1 on Debian/bookworm with

(setq image-use-external-converter t)

So perhaps it is a Windows-only problem?

In any case, Emacs 29 has native support for webp, so this is probably
fixed there. Would it be possible for you to check whether this works
better in Emacs 29?

Thanks for checking.

Since this works in Emacs 29, and Emacs 28 has a different mechanism for
displaying webp images, I don't think this is going to receive any work
for Emacs 28.2 (we're only fixing regressions and very serious bugs on
that branch now), so I'm therefore closing this bug report.
