describe-variable shows:

   xxxx.... is a variable defined in ‘yyyy.....el’.
   Its value is X
   Original value was Y

     You can customize this variable.

   This variable was introduced, or its default value was changed, in
   version ZZZ of Emacs.

Actually you could separately reveal:
Date/version when introduced.
Date/version when default value was changed.
Date/version when function guts last updated, or at least the
date/version of .el that it lives in.
etc.

Most of this information could be rooted out from the source control, I
guess, but the utility would be limited: If the development version
changed a value on 2012-04-01, but it wasn't released until 2014-04-01,
what's the point of giving one (or both or either) of these dates?

And if the user wants to know the release dates of an Emacs release,
there's always Duck Duck Go.
