First call to py-shell-complete in session is block by completion--capf-wrapper,
which makes Emacs message
"Completion function py-shell-complete uses a deprecated calling convention"
whilst completion is abandoned.
Successive commands work as expected.
AFAIS the lines in question are at end of function:
((not (or (listp res) (functionp res)))
(unless (member fun completion--capf-misbehave-funs)
(message
"Completion function %S uses a deprecated calling convention" fun)
(push fun completion--capf-misbehave-funs))))

(I'm going through old bug reports that unfortunately got no response at
the time.)
`py-shell-complete' doesn't seem to exist in Emacs 28, at least -- is
this from an external package, or has the problem gone away in the years
since this was reported?

More information was requested, but no response was given within a
month, so I'm closing this bug report. If the problem still exists,
please respond to this email and we'll reopen the bug report.
