It is really a contorted interpretation to have set-default-font behave
as set-frame-font.
The expected behavior is to set the font one wants to use whatever
frames she opens. And instead of that I have to touch
default-frame-alist? Come on!

`set-default-font' is obsolete now.

I don't see a need to keep open this particular report, which was marked
"wontfix" some time ago.
set-default-font is an obsolete alias for set-frame-font since 23.1.
This, together with its documentation, makes it clear what it does.
The Emacs manual explains how to change the font.
