Thanks for your answer Kyle,

Good that you pointed me to ob-julia, was unsure that that was the correct
venue to take for a contrib package.
I posted an issue there and ones I got the changelog you posted I tried the
following change
from
(mapcar #'cdr (org-babel-get-header params :var))
to
(mapcar #'cdr (org-babel--get-vars params))

This seems to works for my setup.
