Alright, I solved my own problem.
I was able to get ve= rbatim working with a unicode symbol (=E2=88=9A) as delimeter, by editing b= oth=C2=A0org-emphasis-alist and=C2=A0org-export-latex-emphasis-alist.

I used customize-variable org-emphasis-alist to change the s= ymbols to mark verbatim text, but without success; adding unusual symbols b= roke LaTeX export of the org file, and swapping the underline and verbatim = symbols had no effect (code marked _like so_ was still underlined instead o= f made verbatim).

Advice would be appreciated!
Thanks,
