If you are using direct beamer support within org, by having

: #+startup: beamer

Duh. Gosh, can't believe I missed that. That's the ticket!
=A0
in the preamble of your file, you can use the C-c C-b sequence at any
heading to see all the possible options for that heading. =A0This
includes the example etc. blocks.

Regarding the output produced by beamer for the example block, this
has nothing to do with org: beamer has a number of different types of
blocks from a simple block through to examples, proofs, quotes,
definition etc. =A0Pick the right kind for what you want. =A0Also
choose the beamer theme that fits your needs.

Kind of. I guess m= y question was this:

- If I do a "straight" LaTeX block like this:=
\begin{exampleblock}{Example}
Here is some text
<= div>\end{exampleblock}

I get the title "Examp= le" for the block.

- If I do it via org-beamer like this:
*= ** Example block=A0 =A0= =A0:B_example:
=A0=A0 =A0:PROPERTIES:
=A0=A0 =A0:BEAMER= _env: example
=A0=A0 =A0:END:
Here is some text

=
Then I get the block title "Example (Example block)"

That's what I mean. I guess if examples are=A0supp= osed=A0to say Example (what-the-example-is) then that's fine. I gue= ss I use these blocks more for color differentiation's sake than actual= ly needing them to be known as "examples" or "alerts."<= /div>
=A0

Yes: being able to easily specify the type of block. =A0And it's = about
hiding all the superfluous information, leaving only the text and
structure visible!

Indeed -- this is excellent and now that I= 9;m in the environment and know C-c C-b it makes all the difference! I like= having org markup available rather than needing to do \emph{} in blocks si= nce once inside of explicit LaTeX, org's markup doesn't get picked = up.
=A0
Thanks for the help!

There is a difference. This is because org does not use =exampleblock=; it uses =example= instead: : \begin{example}[The heading for the block] This is different to "exampleblock" which you are using. Ah, very true. =A0There is a difference. =A0This is because org does = not
use =3Dexampleblock=3D; it uses =3Dexample=3D instead:

: =A0\begin{example}[The heading for the block]

Good catch. I didn't know about that difference! It's easi= er to use org's pre-defined stuff, so I think I'll just stick with = it myself! It's not a bad idea to have it called out as an example anyw= ay so perhaps I'll just get used to it!
=A0

This is different to "exampleblock" which you are using. =A0Which= one is
nicer is obviously a personal choice; I like the current version
personally! =A0But I must admit that I did not know about the other one
(exampleblock).
