After sleeping over the idea, I eventually allowed the apostrophe after
$...$ as it was the case some time ago.

My suggestion still holds, though, as \(...\) syntax is much more
predictable than $...$.

By the way, instead of writing ``...'', you may be interested in
`org-export-with-smart-quotes' and use "..." instead.
