I'm not sure what you mean. Defining local settings lets you pick up a local setting from a list (defined in org-agenda-custom-commands-local-options). When selecting the last choice "Any variable", it lets you define a variable that is *not* in this list (there are so many of them available!) -- such a variable asks for a sexp. > It's just a minor gripe, and one for which I would submit a patch if I > knew enough elisp.
