Perhaps we should use =E2=80=9C{\centering=E2=80=9D and =E2=80=9C}=E2=80=9D= to center non-floating tables =E2=80=93 I=E2=80=99m not enough of a latex guru to know the pros an= d cons. Do you have a reference that documents how the environment version causes problems, or are you speaking from experience?
