Basically it is,
(search-forward "call_")
versus
(re-search-forward "\\([^\n]*?\\)call_\\([^()[:space:]\n]+?\\)\\(\\[\\(.*?\\)\\]\\|\\(\\)\\)(\\(.*?\\))\\(\\[\\(.*?\\)\\]\\)?")
Of course, the speed factor depends on the length of the lines in the
document, but it could make a significant difference for the OP.
