Hi,
We have the following translations for clock table column names:
;; FIXME: translate es and nl last string "Clock summary at"
(defcustom org-clock-clocktable-language-setup
'(("en" "File" "L" "Timestamp" "Headline" "Time" "ALL" "Total time" "File time" "Clock summary at")
("es" "Archivo" "N" "Fecha y hora" "Tarea" "Tiempo" "TODO" "Tiempo total" "Tiempo archivo" "Clock summary at")
("fr" "Fichier" "N" "Horodatage" "En-tête" "Durée" "TOUT" "Durée totale" "Durée fichier" "Horodatage sommaire à")
("nl" "Bestand" "N" "Tijdstip" "Hoofding" "Duur" "ALLES" "Totale duur" "Bestandstijd" "Clock summary at")
("de" "Datei" "E" "Zeitstempel" "Kopfzeile" "Dauer" "GESAMT" "Gesamtdauer" "Dateizeit" "Erstellt am"))
"Terms used in clocktable, translated to different languages."
...)
As FIXME states, we at least need to translate "Clock summary at" to
Spanish and Dutch.
Contributions for other languages are also welcome.
P.S. I am taking this opportunity with an easy help request to see how
many people would be interested to contribute non-code.

Hello,
disclaimers: my nationality is dutch, although I am living in France
since 1987
and I don't use org-mode clocking. I have the following remarks:
The real translation of "headline" into Dutch is "kop" (close to the
German translation),
but if "headline" should be understood like "heading" then I would
recommend "rubriek"
translating back in English as "column" (in a newspaper). I like
"rubriek" better than
"kop".
"Clock summary at" could be translated as "Klok overzicht op" in case a
date follows.
Best regards -- Gerard

Thanks!
Heading is more like a section title in a document.
I guess newspaper column can also fit. (btw, it is similar to Ukrainian
рубрика [rubryka])

Yup. The date follows. It is used in the clock table title.
I am attaching a patch under your name. Let me know if it fits your
suggestions.

Subject: [PATCH] org-clock-clocktable-language-setup: Fix Dutch translation
* lisp/org-clock.el (org-clock-clocktable-language-setup): Use Rubriek
for "heading". It is more accurate as "Hoofding" refers to newspaper
headline. Add the missing translation for "Clock summary at".

The patch fits my suggestions.
FYI: the word "rubriek" can also convey a classification of similar
things or people
(it could be used in libraries, bookkeeping of expenses or tasks).

I don't know what "L" or "N" are.
"Tarea" is not "Headline". "Tarea" is "Task".
"Heading" is "Encabezado". I am not sure what "Headline" is.
I am not sure what "Clock summary at" refers to. I would need a
complete sentence. But literally it translates to "Resumen de reloj
en".
The rest is OK with me.

I speak Esperanto. But I am not confident to translate.

"L" is supposed to refer to heading "Level".

"Clock summary at" will be used as title:
#+TITLE: Clock summary at [2022-11-28]

In theory, we tried to list ways to help that do not involve code in
https://orgmode.org/worg/org-contribute.html#org27513d8
Though it is hard to say how visible that page is from
https://orgmode.org/. (It is "Contribute" link on top).
More things also require translation in `org-export-dictionary'.

OK. If "L" would be an abbreviation to "Level", "N" would be the right
abbreviation of the correct translation "Nivel".

Then the translation looks OK. Nevertheless, it sounds cranky. If
there is an example of what the title has below it, it might be easier
to judge. Perhaps the manual or another link has an example where it
shows that title on a generated document. I have not found it in my
search.

It looks appropriate. But it is different to see a general description
(as in that link) than a small task to help with (as was with this
task). The later is more motivating!

I do think that the "Contribute" link on top is accessible.

That sounds long .... Is there something concrete which is important to
help with? I can destinate about 2 hours per week. Maybe a little
more.

For example:
#+BEGIN: clocktable :scope file :maxlevel 2
#+CAPTION: Clock summary at [2022-12-04 Sun 14:16]

| *Total time* | *0h 0min* |

P.S. I did note your other responses. Will take a look later. Bugfixes

It is still not clear what "Clock summary at" refers to. Perhaps
someone fairly proficient in the English language could use it in a
sentence. That sentence needs to specifically convey the sense of what
"Clock summary at" means in org-mode. Then I could translate it to
Spanish correctly. Nevertheless, the translation is probably fair
enough.

In other words, the caption is trying to say that the table below lists
summary of clocked time as of [...] date; how much time is spent doing
various tasks before [...] date.
Hope it clarifies things.

I am sorry to take so much time to contribute. I guess that I feel very
unsure. Next time, I will do it in a more timely manner, considering
that the "time question" has been overcome! ;-)

Emm. I am not sure what you are referring to.
Some bugs remain open for years before they are closed. And our expected
timing for responses is ~1 month.
So, do not worry about taking too much time for anything. The most
important thing is contributing. We do not expect speed.

And the timestamp includes hours/minutes, therefore the preposition "at"
is used ("at sixteen minutes past two") rather than "on" ("on the fourth
of December").
I mention this because it's the kind of formulation that can trip people
up during localization, especially if they don't know how "[date]" is
going to be formatted. Going forward, it's worth thinking about making
strings easy to localize. There was just a presentation about this at
Emacsconf the other day (https://emacsconf.org/2022/talks/localizing/).
In the case of "Clock summary at [date time]", the string "Clock
summary, [date time]" would be just as clear and leave less scope for
error, and one could even drop the comma. This might in any case be the
best solution for translations if people are confused what to do with
"at" in their language. (In some, it would simply be the right
translation -- e.g. for Norwegian, for which I'll send a patch shortly).
Yours,
Christian

It does. Thank you very much, Christian.
So "Clock summary at" is more like "Clock summary up to"?
That would translate to "Resumen de tiempos hasta" in Spanish. But is
seems like a long text, even if it is gramatically correct.

Just to note: The helpful clarification was Ihor's.
I added a note about strings like this being tricky to localize and
keeping that in mind when doing them in English.

`org-export-dictionary' is not really that long. It has 22 phrases to be
translated or checked in the language you speak. The list itself looks
rather long only because it is already translated to a number of
languages.
Other important area where we can use help is WORG. Pages in
https://orgmode.org/worg/ are often outdated or even have dead links.
Checking WORG for inconsistencies and proposing new blog article links
would be very helpful. This can be done one article at a time and does
not really require a one-time effort. Rather a persistence reading
things one by one (TODO list can help ;))
Yet another thing that is coming to my mind is checking command
descriptions in the manual. We currently have a number of commands with
docstrings diverged from what we have in the manual. It would help to
identify inconsistencies and amend the manual. (Ideally, the manual
should contain more than a docstring; tips for usage, for example).
Further, there is a number of ideas I noted wrt documentation/articles:
- It would be useful to have a set of suggested configuration tricks +
third-party packages for people interested in different aspects of
Org: writing fiction; writing non-fiction/science; publishing; babel
and code evaluation; interactive notebooks; GTD and task management;
knowledge management/note-taking; spreadsheets; cooking; tracking
habits; etc
We partially have this by linking to separate articles, like in
https://orgmode.org/worg/org-tutorials/index.html, but having a common
"intro" pages for different Org aspect would help a lot to get
started for newbies.
- We may accumulate a series of short videos/screencasts illustrating
distinct workflows/features, similar to
https://orgmode.org/features.html or https://emacsrocks.com/
- We might have interviews with people who use Org mode in really unusual
ways; people who really think that their life has changed after they
started using Org, or just people with interesting and well-rounded
workflows.
- We may have interactive tutorials in a form of Org files with src
blocks to make it easy getting started with common use patterns.
Similar to Emacs tutorial or good old interactive books.
If there is interest, we can split the above into smaller tasks and
assign small chunks (like one article/manual section) to different
people.

Some clarification about what the items refer to:
"L" is for heading "Level"
"ALL" refers to All files when clock table includes multiple files.
"Clock summary at" is used as clock table title #+TITLE: Clock summary at [2022-11-28]

Sure, patch attached. BTW there are some small differences between

For some reason I believed that gettext was available in Emacs. Actually
only a rudimentary variant of `ngettext' (for plurals) was added in
2019. I was going to ask why .po files are not used in Org for
translations. Perhaps I confused it with old versions of TeXmacs that
sometimes tried to translate each component of file paths.

It would indeed be interesting to have a unified approach to bring
translations into Emacs. I'd discuss it on emacs-devel.

I found the following thread:
Eli Zaretskii to emacs-devel… Re: Internationalize Emacs's messages

So a translations framework for Emacs is to be implemented. This
particular thread is concentrated on 2 issues:
- Attempt to not count all elements in list for performance reason.
Unfortunately `ngettext' would not work for languages having more than
"" and "s" forms.
- "Fluent" would be better than gettext since it allows arbitrary
categories, not just numbers, but someone should write its
implementation in C. This part of discussion is mostly dedicated to the
question if linking with a Rust library is acceptable.

(setq org-clock-clocktable-language-setup
'(
("nn" "Fil" "N" "Tidspunkt" "Overskrift" "Tid" "ALT" "Total tid" "Filtid" "Tid stempla ved")
))
Looking forward when I can delete that line from my init.el :)

Hi, Kevin,
A couple of considerations:
1. I think "ALT" should be "ALLE" as in "alle filene" (the documentation
says "ALL" refers to "All files when clock table includes multiple
files").
2. I like "Tid stempla", but "Tidsoversyn" or "Tidssamandrag" would stick
closer to the original and be clearer, I think.
3. I think "ved" should be omitted. It's not used before dates ("den
3.2.2023" but preferably just "3.2.2023"), days ("på fredag") or times
("klokka 14:00", "kl. 14:00", "14:00"). It's generally safe to omit it:
"Tidsoversyn [2023-02-03 Fri 14:00]" would be clear. If a preposition is
wanted, the entire date could be read "fredag 3.2.2023 kl. 14:00", so
the "på" before weekday would work, I guess.
Yours,
Christian

That sounds good to me. With those changes we have
(setq org-clock-clocktable-language-setup
'(
("nn" "Fil" "N" "Tidspunkt" "Overskrift" "Tid" "ALLE" "Total tid" "Filtid" "Tidsoversyn")
))

I'd rather go for
("es" "Archivo" "N" "Fecha y hora" "Tarea" "Duración" "TODO" "Duración
total" "Tiempo archivo" "Generado el")
To be in line with the ("de" ...) line

So, we have two suggested variants now: yours and from Esteban Ordóñez.
("en" "File" "L" "Timestamp" "Headline" "Time" "ALL"
"Total time" "File time" "Clock summary at")
can be translated as
(your version)
("es" "Archivo" "N" "Fecha y hora" "Tarea" "Duración" "TODO"
"Duración total" "Tiempo archivo" "Generado el")
or
(Esteban's version)
("es" "Archivo" "N" "Fecha y hora" "Tarea" "Tiempo" "TODO"
"Tiempo total" "Tiempo de archivo" "Resumen de tiempos en")
Note that "time" in English version refers to clocked time, which is
probably closer in its meaning to "duration" or "time spent".
Pedro, Esteban, any comments?

This is why I'm using "Duración"...
Being bilingual ES/DE I tried to align the Spanish translation to the
German translation

No further response has been given. I arbitrarily went with Pedro's
version.

Did not see this message. I agree that his version is better. :-)
