It will be more fragile compared to using temporary buffer.
As an alternative, you can apply narrowing around the call to
`org-table-convert-region'.

Also, do note that any text exceeding
`org-table-convert-region-max-lines' will lead to
`org-table-convert-region' throwing an error.
