Hi Carsten,
The message displayed in the buffer is as follows:
"Creating image for buffer...done. Use `C-c C-C' to remove image"
Ha ha, I think I solved the problem. I have to switch to math mode in
org i.e., $\alpha$ not \alpha then C-c C-x C-l works likes a charm.
