Thank you so much for pointing me to the right direction. Turns 
out Apple does (terrible) server-side SPAM filtering with no way 
to opt-out. I found hundreds of messages moved to the “Junk” 
folder, and now I know why some threads in the mailing lists I 
follow made no sense to me. In the “Junk” folder, I also found the 
confirmation mail for this mailing list. To mitigate the problem, 
I reconfigured my Fetchmail to fetch both “Inbox” and “Junk” 
folders from Apple. Again and again, open-source software for the 
win, as what I did is not possible in Apple Mail.
