In parallel with the usual merging of patches into master, I'd like to
put together a bugfix release with some build and portability fixes.

If you want to propose a tag for such a release, please tag it
notmuch::0.18.1 in nmbug.

I'd like to make such a release within two weeks from today (so, 26th of
May)

I didn't end up having time to do this when planned, and I'll be offline
for about two weeks, so we'll pick the discussion in a few weeks as to
whether to have a point release.

I have tagged 0.18.1~rc0 in git. Please let me know ASAP if there are
any showstopper bugs, or changes needed to NEWS before the release.
I'd like to release Wednesday June 25.

Yet some minor NEWS tweaks (probably reverting a suggestion of mine :D)

To me this looks like a better (and more consistent) option for this context.


Other thing: at the end of 0.18.1 NEWS, before 0.18 header line there are
2 empty lines. The customary habit has been to have only one empty line
between releases in the NEWS file. Please (verify and) comply :D

  The removal introduced a bug with previously indexed single-message
  mboxes.  This support remains deprecated.

Fix for phrase indexing

  There were several bugs where words intermingled from different
  headers and MIME parts could match a single phrase query.  This fix
  will affect only newly indexed messages.

Make sure tagging on an empty query is harmless

  Previously tagging an empty query could lead to tags being
  unintentionally removed.
