While the notmuch emacs client is in general very impressive, opening my inbox makes Emacs lag terribly. I believe the reason is that there seems to be no way to limit the number of results, so when I search for the inbox tag, there are too many mails for emacs to display comfortably. I would like a way to limit the search results when using the emacs client, but have not found a way to do so. I found this from 2011, which seems to discuss the feature I want. However, it was never merged as far as I can see: https://notmuchmail.org/pipermail/notmuch/2011/006297.html Am I the only one with this issue? If so, I will have to look through my setup. If not, how do other people get around it? ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 7+ messages in thread

I think it's normal to set saved searches so that they have a time limit, like this: to:something AND date:90days.. tag:something AND date:90days.. -- /// Teemu Likonen - .-.. https://www.iki.fi/tlikonen/ // OpenPGP: 6965F03973F0D4CA22B9410F0F2CAE0E07608462 [-- Attachment #1.2: signature.asc --] [-- Type: application/pgp-signature, Size: 251 bytes --] [-- Attachment #2: Type: text/plain, Size: 0 bytes --] ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 7+ messages in thread

That's perfect, thank you. I hadn't even considered a date range. Before going to far with pagination, maybe get Jani to recap the difficulties he saw at the time that led him to propose the simpler approach. I can think of a few issues, but I don't really know if they are blockers. - the result set is going to vary dynamically as messages are added and removed from the database - As far as I can tell, there isn't really an easy way to jump to page n of the results. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 7+ messages in thread

Ah, indeed that sounds like a different approach than was previously mooted. I guess it might be a simple-ish way of making the display more lazy, which I agree is most likely the bottleneck most people are seeing. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 7+ messages in thread
