We're deprecating the ability to just edit the configuration file by hand? That's unfortunate. > There are technical reasons for certain items being in > the database, and that's likely to continue. I won't dispute the technical reasons, (I'm out of the loop on that). But if running "notmuch config" to add a saved search stores some necessary data in the database, couldn't the same code be invoked when loading the configuration file and noticing a new saved search there in the file? We've gone out of our way to make the configuration file as useful as possible, (such as by maintaining comments in the file even when using a tool such as "notmuch config" to edit it). Let's please not throw out all the benefits by just saying that manually editing the configuration file is unreliable and people shouldn't do it. -Carl --=-=-= Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAEBCgAdFiEEzvjdyAGcpm1OMJTzYAIzup5U3GEFAloxsyMACgkQYAIzup5U 3GEAkA//U9TA8lMjudnf0fieHW02c/S7PIm9EYdSyEIEZCSjTEC+BL5PccQfOwwl GzDk5QYUoK7UwE2juEKMt7rZH48dwpKI22OW8xQF3ViS3DltvKE9i7xzpA1oUb8d Id6leSCxLIkmoXFx8+IgPR/rkWMOObZh1fwND8AsvarKoxbgHscFAoWJw8JgXedf 2PQyrg/ego11mhP+6fgNPgMscDzU/mpUmQUPC5MLE1dMNXNNDueDmPFLj9nsP+3e OT1yT00eug4dvCCXGAetzsoRF58yTe+tw3jTGgcBk2t515tXCZ8LWxrHInXhLHAF 3X05K6e5se0Zm3zfoOE1/8OaX4cNcvBRxJWhse+A6z1VMthRq5rTPOr0xQYVVe5U 3WFxN5RomUjKcrQcnw0SN1X5PosQZPP1y5LDczrsMa1TVmAG8yNsDa7gGbwFDTWd gPDvArWMz6eMpGHzNPXOz9ogJQ/gm3agREbLLfz7oSllcjlnIvZqEueLj8KSqrmr 8edFtTd2X61mDwXW45pfBTbvgb4idFZy6BQW18DDfzZxgA/YTwiVfDDTkB5EO388 Q2z9t6gg1gac5BJsHw+go6JuOu8hiYVEn9vdvTRF2O/ArobuxuUEobC84O5aKgcR XfOotV35HvSKu1Zg77nKONlmpl2Tys4KUrdmE8AyQw97xa7xywQ= =fEYw -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --=-=-=--
