Hi Gang;
It's been a while since we had a release. There are some ABI breaking
ideas around, but I think it makes sense to release and then forge
forward with those.
Since I'm moving at a pretty slow pace these days on notmuch (and
everything) I propose the following schedule:
Feature freeze: November 8
Hard freeze: November 22
Release: November 28 (approximately)
Feel free to start tagging things as notmuch:0.17 in nmbug if you think
they can be squeezed in the next few weeks.

This schedule is apparently extremely approximate. I just pushed a tag
0.17_rc1. Notmuch can be considered feature frozen for 0.17 at this
point. Doc changes and (important) bug fixes are still
welcome.
Development can continue on master, but please let me know if you think
I should cherry-pick changes to the release branch; or perhaps better,
let me apply them on release and merge to master.

I have pushed a tag 0.17_rc2 which has a couple of bug fixes from
0.17_rc1. Unless some serious bug turns up I'd like to release 0.17
next week. People are encouraged to look at
git shortlog 0.16..0.17_rc2
and look for missing NEWS items. My (subjectively) edited version
follows. (P.S. congrats to Mark Walters, who moves in to #4 in the
overall commit race, #1 for this release ;) )
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Blake Jones (4):
getpwuid: check for standards compliance (Solaris support)
strsep: check for availability (Solaris support)
timegm: add portable implementation (Solaris support)
notmuch-config: use strchr(), not index() (Solaris support)
Charlie Allom (1):
vim: run mutt in default term
Gregor Zattler (1):

Istvan Marko (1):
emacs: add buttons for all multipart/related parts
John Lenz (1):

Kevin J. McCarthy (2):
notmuch-mutt: Fix tagging issues
notmuch-mutt: use notmuch --duplicate flag
Louis Rilling (1):
tags_to_maildir_flags: Don't rename if no flags change
Mark Walters (66):

Here is the NEWS for my bugfixes. I have not provided a news item for
"emacs: bugfix unquoted symbol" as that was only briefly a bug during
this development cycle: the bug was not present in any release.
Best wishes
Mark
