Hi Guix,

May I request commit access for the Guix repositories?

This access would be primarily for maintaining and addding packages in
the (gnu packages maths/engineering/simulation) modules.

Also, I am preparing to do the narration for the Guix videos. With
commit access, I will be able to push the audio files directly to
videos.git.

I have an account on Savannah and have uploaded my OpenPGP key.

Best regards,

Paul Garlick.

Great, that makes sense to me.

I’ve added you as a committer. Could you please reply to this message
signed with the OpenPGP key that you’ll use to sign commits?

Please make sure to read ‘HACKING’ for the rules for commit access. Do
not hesitate to ask if you have any questions about Git, the workflow,
or anything like that.

Thank you for your work on these modules, and welcome aboard! :-)

Ludo’.

Hi Laura,

I am looking forward to viewing the videos after I have cloned the
repository as a member. Initially, I am not planning to make any
changes, just to make an estimate of the total speaking time.

I will update on progress and post any questions or comments on the
'Video narration' thread.

Best regards,

Paul.

I more or less added what it took to me, but when you record even a
draft because of the format, that would be the "real timing". I guess
I told you but the only parts in which I did not record the audios was
in the cli session videos. Now that I have a headset and the
environmental noice is reduced quite a lot, I could try to add my
voice to them, WDYT Guix? But for the slide videos, my voice and the
transcript are enough for a reference :)

Regards :)

Just in case people don't know about it, there's a wonderful piece of
free software called audacity, which can be used for audio processing.

While I haven't tried it before, I believe it can be used for noise
reduction. (I myself mostly use audacity for fade in, fade out, loudness
normalization, changing tempo, adding silence and overlaying tracks.)

Hope it help :)

Thank you very much! I have it installed but did not have headsets by
that time, ended up recording them the hard way.

I have used the noise correction in audacity. It is brilliant and very easy to use 😃

Hello,

I want to apply for commit access in GNU Guix. I think I could help
with some packages (as I usually do now), but maybe just a little bit
faster. It seems that GNU Guix could use another helping hand as
there's sometimes a shortage of people who review patches.

It should be noted here that contributing to Guix is part of my hobby
and my contributions are a bit sporadic and don't have steady schedule.

Currently I see the following "areas of interest" in my contributions:
- Engineering software, mainly PrusaSlicer and FreeCAD.
- Networking software, mainly IPFS (Kubo) and Yggdrasil. Me with
Sharlatan Hellseher are gradually un-bundling parts of IPFS (Golang
packages) now.
- Updating outdated packages where I can.

I'm still learning some of the GNU Guix patch requirements and workflows
and sometimes there are issues with my patches that I need to fix, but
I'm trying to learn from my mistakes.

Probably Sharlatan Hellseher, Andrew Tropin and Ludovic Courtès could
write some "professional reference" to this email as I worked along with
them on Guix patches.

Also Efraim Flashner suggested that I apply to the commit access so
maybe he could speak out here too.

This email should be signed with my main GPG key which is
  D0C2 EAC1 3310 822D 98DE B57C E9C5 A2D9 0898 A02F

You can find the public key here:
  https://keyserver.ubuntu.com/pks/lookup?search=D0C2EAC13310822D98DEB57CE9C5A2D90898A02F&fingerprint=on&op=index

I also have second newer signing subkey that I use when working on my
notebook:
  01FD 85F4 1A7B 7F82 0583 06A5 935E BE07 36DC 857E

Thanks,

- avp

Hi AVP,

Congratulations on your contributions. As I understand it you'll need to ask "three committers who could vouch for you", and they'll need to email the maintainers alias: . When you have those sponsors you also email the guix-maintainers alias.

The details of the process are here:

https://guix.gnu.org/manual/devel/en/html_node/Commit-Access.html

Steve / Futurile

Hello Steve!

Thanks for your reply!

> The details of the process are here:

I've read the section 22.8.1 and still a little bit confused. From what
I understood I just need forward my "Request for commit access" email to
<guix-maintainers@gnu.org>.

Also, I tagged three committers that can vouch for me in my previous
email already but I've got no reply from them, only from you. I guess
they'll need to reply to my "Request for commit access" email in
<guix-maintainers@gnu.org> mailing list.

Definitely! And indeed, I think it’s important for committers to
understand that a large part of the job is reviewing and applying other
people’s patches, as opposed to “just” pushing one’s own patches (this
is also useful and welcome of course, but we need both).

I’m of course happy to vouch for you. I have now emailed

Thanks,
Ludo’.
