I don't think it's a question of "benefits" as much as "worked on my machine". Developers don't use slow machines and they've set these timeouts accordingly. We do relax the timeouts sometimes, based on reports like yours, because Guix is a build-from-source distro at heart, and it should be possible to use it on slow or old computers.
