Hi Guix,

1.
I got to know that Thunderbird spies on us and collects data.
Is that the same in Icedove, as a one to one copy?
Or are in Icedove some features abandoned?

2.
which graphical E-mail package do you use?
What would you suggest?

3.

Evolution,
Geary (no pgp)
KMail,
Kontakt - (KDE) probably works only on a KDE Plasma desktop I guess
and it seems not be packed for Guix yet.
Claws Mail freezes said somebody

I need a graphical overview of folders in my E-mail package.

In Emacs:
Mu4e,
Mutt (no pop, imap),
Gnus
in all of them there are no folders available.

Are there possibilities to create folders?

Gottfried

In IceDove on my GUIX system, the "privacy and security" tab of the
general settings has the "Allow Daily to send technical and interaction
data" checkbox irrevocably switched off and greyed out, with the message
"Data reporting is disabled for this build configuration". That seems
like a hopeful sign.

Hi Gottfried!

I can't help you with the hunt for a new MUA, but

Link? Most programmes collect data.

If Guix's Icedove spies on anyone, that's a bug which needs to be fixed. There should be no need for anyone to find an alternative.

Kind regards,

It means:

«An email client, email reader or, more formally, message user agent
(MUA) or mail user agent is a computer program used to access and manage
a user's email. » from Email client, Wikipedia, 2024.

I'm sure everyone would appreciate a source on that statement, given
the history Mozilla has and the fact Thunderbird nowadays is basically
an entire web browser with an email client it wouldn't surprise me if
it collects some sort of opt-out telemetry data by default.

Given it's a drop-in replacement for Mozilla's proprietary
software/branding I doubt such behavior would be intended if true.

Claws Mail, never gave my any issues. Though I admit it requires much
more manual tinkering than Thunderbird, unlike Thunderbird it takes a
tenth of storage, Thunderbird sits at around +200MiB last time I
checked years back.

I have Claws Mail on multiple desktops one of which includes GuixSD, I
have zero complains about it on Guix other than the lack of spell check
support which I don't miss that much, the package already includes the
GPG plugin as well for private email and signatures if I recall
correctly.
