To define GuixSD as a "GNU/Linux distribution" gives them > in turn justification to define it as a "Linux distribution" instead. FWIW, I like to call the system just =E2=80=9CGNU=E2=80=9D and GuixSD a =E2= =80=9Cvariant of the GNU system=E2=80=9D. To me =E2=80=9CLinux=E2=80=9D is a technical detail t= hat doesn=E2=80=99t need to be mentioned explicitly each time when speaking to a general audience. (This can be extended to =E2=80=9Cvariant of the GNU system with Linux=E2= =80=9D when needed, or just =E2=80=9CGNU with Linux=E2=80=9D, which is really close to = =E2=80=9CGNU+Linux=E2=80=9D or the more ambiguous =E2=80=9CGNU/Linux=E2=80=9D.) The name affirms the vision towards which we=E2=80=99re working, and it acknowledges the concerted effort in getting us so far. The name is not about acknowledging *software* as such. I feel that convincing the current set of Wikipedia editors is a lost cause. It looks even worse in the German Wikipedia, where the =E2=80=9Cart= icle=E2=80=9D on the GNU/Linux naming controversy insinuates that this is primarily about stroking the egos of rms and the small group of GNU developers. (I just spent some time submitting some changes to that page.) I=E2=80=99d be okay with another way to describe what GuixSD is (especially= once we offer an additional image using the Hurd), but I=E2=80=99m also fine with leaving it as it is. =2D-=20 Ricardo GPG: BCA6 89B6 3655 3801 C3C6 2150 197A 5888 235F ACAC http://elephly.net --=-=-= Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQEcBAEBCAAGBQJYX6/5AAoJEBl6WIgjX6ys/54H/AncgCaVKbRqD/0oaiJwLuKl mVG9uZMofXgC22Slkdj97GhH/SOx4EB7rlbXinrgaYqz3qerUgj4ep0eHXhKE2cz GwW8kZwwXbvXGSYRpHdtwWrdLJ10ImdF3xA+tqcIvKVCrjkTGGyIrdcWM9UkA2vH tqGiZhE4FUZfDiq/SzvQmqXYXOm0Sz/WsUz/cRe7EAfhw54Jlw+bZbYpQt1lJjZ5 L4+DqBjzjGZn/PDDbm5mlPS2nZ7AX3lFznyJx9BreEMZe8rYVna0rY1seMF0EsTP 33a1GZHLqyLgSwnb6foQK6uJe1JfKe7n9S4fpZ1XkGk594CUFBqMs1u7rVNgy7g= =ITiF -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --=-=-=--
