Inputs are used when *building* things, not to manage their=20 outputs (artefacts) once installed to the store. References, not inputs, are how Guix automatically keeps track of=20 which installed store items are live and which ones can be safely=20 garbage-collected. A reference just means the string "/gnu/store/=E2=80=A6-foo" occurs=20 anywhere in "/gnu/store/=E2=80=A6-bar". A patched shebang would be such a= =20 reference, so Guix knows your application uses Python because=20 /gnu/store/=E2=80=A6-yourapp-a.b.c contains references to=20 /gnu/store/=E2=80=A6-python-x.y.z. Propagated-inputs are a hack that says as much as =E2=80=98when the user=20 installs package A, pretend like they also asked to install=20 package B in the same profile=E2=80=99. That is *not* a good thing! It's= =20 a work-around for broken packages and packages that would be far=20 too much work to package in a more Guixy way. Propagation causes=20 all sorts of problems and makes profiles more fragile. Avoid it. > Have I misunderstood this? I think so, or maybe I'm misunderstanding your problem.
