Hello Guix,
now that core-updates has been merged it is a good time to revisit the
changes to our Java packages. We wanted to switch to icedtea-8 as the
default.
Does anyone know what the status of this changeset is? We should push
this to a branch on Savannah after rebasing it and then build it out on
berlin.guixsd.org.
Are there any known big problems that remain to be solved here?

There are two missing patchests. One for bootstrapping java-asm, and
one that adds ant-junit to packages that needs them.
One of the problems I know of is that jeromq fails tests, I guess it might
come from
the underlying zeromq, because this seems to be only a thin wrapper.
I also had to add jdk7 to one package, I will check which one is that. It
would be nice
to fix that.
Some patches are available for review on guix-patches, tagged core-updates,
and mentioning
java. I could not react to all those yet, I had some pressure recently, I
will check those the next
week.

Okay, thanks for the reminder.

I updated jeromq on master / core-updates and noticed two failing tests,
which I then disabled.

Okay, I’ll go through them and apply them to a new branch in the coming
days.
