I'm not sure about a time frame here though. A week, hmm? Alright. Well no rush, that can also happen on the next cycle, and we can also work to make it shorter. :-) >> =E2=80=A2 Simplified package inputs=E2=80=94I=E2=80=99ll keep working = on that, and most of the >> work can be done without a world rebuild, so it=E2=80=99s not a bloc= ker IMO. > > I haven't really caught-up here and am still wondering here about things > like > > ("foo-for-build" ,foo) > ("patch-bar" ,(search-patch ...)) > > but that's prolly addressed. I'll look into this. Good points. We=E2=80=99d have to look at specific examples. In the first case, perhaps it=E2=80=99s enough to add =E2=80=98foo=E2=80=99= in =E2=80=98native-inputs=E2=80=99. In both cases, you can always use gexps, like: (arguments (list #:configure-flags #~(list (string-append "FOO_FOR_BUILD=3D" #$foo)))) =E2=80=A6 though the =E2=80=98foo=E2=80=99 here won=E2=80=99t show up in th= e inputs fields, which is not great because then =E2=80=98guix graph=E2=80=99 and related tools won=E2=80= =99t =E2=80=9Csee=E2=80=9D this reference, and you can=E2=80=99t easily override it via inheritance. A better approach is to still add =E2=80=98foo=E2=80=99 to =E2=80=98native-= inputs=E2=80=99 but to write something like: (arguments (list #:configure-flags #~(list (string-append "FOO_FOR_BUILD=3D" #$(lookup-package-input (package-inputs this-package) "foo"))))) In the second example you give, you could have build-side code that does, say: (lambda* (inputs #:allow-other-keys) (invoke "patch" "-p1" "-i" (find (cut string-suffix? ".patch") inputs))) At any rate, I agree we need to find good idioms for these corner cases. Thoughts? Thanks, Ludo=E2=80=99.
