Weird!? fprintd is a D-Bus service, meaning that it=E2=80=99s not managed by shephe= rd, and thus not accessible with the =E2=80=98herd=E2=80=99 command. Instead, it=E2=80=99s supposed to be started on demand when applications as= k for the fingerprint service. The =E2=80=98fprintd=E2=80=99 package provides se= veral commands starting with =E2=80=98fprintd-=E2=80=99 that should allow you to = check whether it=E2=80=99s working.
